Software is evolving as we know it.
Artificial Intelligence is a big buzzword these days. For many people, it’s still a mystery. They get the impression that AI is going to take over the world and make humans obsolete. That’s not the case though. But did you know that the genesis of artificial intelligence (AI) can be traced to ancient myths, stories, and rumors about robots that were given consciousness or intellect by master craftsmen? In this article, we cover everything you need to know about AI.
What is Artificial Intelligence?
The idea behind it is to allow computers to 'think' in a way that's similar to humans. Over the past few decades, numerous definitions of artificial intelligence (AI) have developed. In the third edition of “Artificial Intelligence: A Modern Approach” authors- Stuart Russell and Peter Norvig defines AI in four different categories i.e., acting humanly, thinking humanly, acting rationally, and thinking rationally.
However, some of the aforementioned definitions were circular and lacked a detailed understanding of what AI really is. Many experts at Dartmouth College in the United States predicted that a machine as intelligent as a human would exist in less than a decade. To make this prediction a success, they were funded with millions of dollars.
In recent studies, it is found that AI is the capability of a machine to show human-like abilities like learning, creativity, reasoning, and planning. This promotes technical systems to understand their environment, deal with what they grasp, solve problems, and function to accomplish a specific goal. The computer obtains data - already designed or gathered through its sensors such as a camera - processes it and responds. AI systems are able of adapting their behavior to a specific degree by analyzing the results of prior actions and functioning autonomously.
What is the Current State of AI?
Virtually every major IT company is investing in the future of artificial intelligence, including Amazon, Microsoft, Apple, and Alphabet’s Deep Mind. Over the last decades, there has been a steady increase in AI use seen in day-to-day activities. AI programs are being used to diagnose cancer or predict stock market patterns. It is classified into two types - software such as image analysis software, virtual assistants, search engines, and speech and face recognition systems as well as embodied AI like autonomous cars, drones, robots, and the Internet of Things.
Investors predict that over 30% of jobs currently performed by data entry clerks or family law attorneys will be done by computers within the next 20 years to take advantage of time cost efficiency over wages. Whereas a report from the World Economic Forum estimated that AI would create a net total of 97 million new jobs by 2025.
The Rise of Artificial Intelligence
Artificial intelligence is a hot topic, so much so that it’s hard to know where to start or what it is. Some people think AI is a new concept, but the fact is that it has always existed and has been used in the past to perform complex tasks. The difference today is that it has become a lot more accessible to everyone and can be used easily by anyone with a computer and an internet connection.
We live in a time when technology changes every day. It is changing our lives and the way we do things. One of the biggest industries that it has changed, is the software industry. Software is all around us. It is on our phones, our laptops, and desktop computers. It is in TVs and cars and the devices; we use every day. It is on the internet, it is in our bank accounts, and it is in our schools. The software has taken over and there is no going back.
Tech has created a new way of marketing software and making it more efficient. Tech has changed the way we think about software and made it more modern. For example, Adobe has been around since 1982, and they have stayed true to its original mission: to provide exceptional software that will help designers do their jobs. The same can be said for other big names such as Microsoft and Google.
How tech is changing software as we know it and what will it entail for technology over the coming years?
Artificial Intelligent has taken over traditional computing approaches and transformed how many industries function, and achieve their daily operations. From research and manufacturing to modernizing the finance and healthcare industry, leading AI has changed everything in a very short period.
AI and related technologies have had an optimistic result on the technique the IT sector operates. In other words, artificial intelligence is the study of how to transform computers into intelligent machines, anything that would not otherwise be viable without direct human interference. Utilizing computer-based training and advanced algorithms, AI and cutting-edge machine learning can help to build systems capable of emulating human behavior, create solutions to complex problems, and develop simulations, striving to become human-level AI.
According to the statistics, the AI market is expected to reach $190 billion by 2025. Only 18% of participants stated that their companies have a clear strategy in place for obtaining the data necessary for AI to work. (Source) Also, some 61% of industry experts indicate AI and machine learning as their most noteworthy data initiative over the coming year. Also, some 95% of business leaders who are experienced in using large data use AI technologies. This is due to the fact that AI is constantly improving and will eventually overtake industries in the coming years.
